Bury St Edmunds has a large Information Centre located on Angel Hill, close to the Cathedral. It has a wide range of leaflets and information for local interests in and around the area. Here are just a few suggestions which may be of interest.

Bury St Edmunds

This historic town is only four miles away and is noted for its fine Cathedral and old Abbey ruins, museums and the superb Abbey Gardens which have won much praise from ‘Britain in Bloom’ judges. The Annual Festival is in May each year, and the town has fine shops and much more to offer.

Duxford Imperial War Museum

Duxford is just south of the City of Cambridge at Junction 10 of the M11 motorway. It is Europe’s premier aviator museum with special Air shows throughout the Summer months. A special leaflet is available from Bury St Edmunds Information Centre giving full details.

West Stow

West Stow Country Park consists of 125 acres of heath land, nature reserve with river, lake and woodland. All linked by Nature Trail. The Visitor Centre and Shop open the Anglo-Saxon Village, which has been reconstructed on its site. Open spring and summer. Admission fee.

Bradfield Woods

A short walk from the Campsite. Bradfield Woods are an outstanding ancient woodlands, coppiced since medieval times and open all the year round. Guided walks for Groups by arrangement.

High Lodge Centre – Thetford Forest

Designated a Forest Park by the Forestry Commission in May 1990, Thetford Forest attracts over 1.5 million visitors each year. Situated in the heart of East Anglia, the forest is a patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves. With a Visitors Centre serving refreshments and the ‘Go Ape’ highwire activity, it is a great place to spend a day.

Mid Suffolk [Stowmarket] Leisure Centre

This leisure centre has a surprisingly good small climbing wall called ‘The Cragg’. Open 10a.m. – 10p.m. every day, there’s a maximum session time when busy of 1.5 hours. Groups need to book in advance on 01449 674980. There is no equipment for hire.
